ALLITERATION:
- ''Then as the dawn brightened, and the day broke''
- ''the storied leader, sat stricken and helpless''
- ''Grendel who haunted the moors, the wild Marshes, and made his home in a hell.''
- ''He was spawned in that slime Of Cain, murderous creatures banished By God, punished forever for the crime Of Abel's Death.''
- Cain is the first murderer in the Bible, and the concept of Hell is also in the Bible.
- Beowulf burned in the hell fire (dragon's fire) at the end of the story, which is an unfortunate disastrous ending to a hero and his life.
- Beowulf
- King Hrothgar
- Grendel
- Grendel's Mother
- The Dragon
- When the Danes and Geats are standing by the lake, they watch the blood rise up to the top of the lake and think that Beowulf was killed by Grendel's mom but we (as the audience) know that Grendel's mom was killed by Beowulf himself and that it's her blood in the water
- Grendel could be considered a flat character in Beowulf. He is never really defined literally and his character is mostly to show how heroic and strong Beowulf is.
- Beowulf is probably the most to be considered the round character. He is the main character and is known as a big strong heroic man and it even gives background details to his life before.
- The mood in Beowulf shifts upon scene to scene, because it's a scary mood when Grendel is attacking and eating Beowulf's men but when Beowulf slays Grendel's Mother it's a feeling of glory in the book so it's up and down in my opinion. And there is sadness at the end when the King dies and everyone is mourning.
- The protagonist in the story is easily Beowulf, as he is featured throughout the entire story and the book is even named after him.
- There is reversal in the story when Grendel is eating all of Beowulfs men and it looks like all hope is lost but it reverses and we feel accomplishment and happiness when Beowulf vanquishes Grendel and his mother.
- Beowulf takes place in The Land of the Danes (or modern day Denmark) and also the Land of the Geats (modern day Sweden). This is all 6th century Scandinavia as well.
- When Beowulf dies at the end of the story, it is the most noble and most deserving person dying in defeat, which is least expected because he is seen as the strongest and bravest person in the book.
